Annotate a periodic table

On the Periodic table provided, number Groups and Periods.
Then, label and colour code:
  • Alkali metals
  • Alkali earth metals 
  • Halogens
  • Noble Gases
  • Transition metals
  • Lanthanides
  • Actinides

Watch this video and then create your own song /rap with music in the back ground taking into account the following information:

- Element name and symbol

- Atomic Number

- Examples of function of element

- How the periodic table is structured with periods and groups.

Hand out the photocopy of 50 questions about some common elements for the students to research

Look at the Periodic Table on pg 109.

Count how many elements you have heard of before.

Discuss this in table groups.

Report back to entire class of these discussions

 

Order the Element Samples, in old glass jars with Lab Tech
