Revise: Decomposition Reaction

1. Explain what a decomposition reaction is and give an example of one.

2. Practical Activity: Raisin lava lamp

Can you create a lava lamp with a decomposition reaction?

Collect the following:

clear fizzy drink such as lemonade or tonic water

raisins

clear glass or beaker

Do the following:

1. Pour the lemonade into the clear glass or bottle

2. Add several raisins.

Describe what you saw.

Explain why you think this happened.

Use the following interactive to change dimensions of shapes of your choice.

Play around with it and see if you can make an object with a really LARGE surface area and a really small surface area.

Pay particular attention to the surface area compared to the volume of the object.
