APA stands for "Analysing and Presenting Arguments".

Define these words:

  • Point of View
  • Argument
  • Contention
  • Technique
  • Persuasive
  • Persuade
  • Position

 

Think about the exercises you might have done in the past reading newspaper articles, and identifying the ways that the writer has used language to persuade readers of their point of view.

Write the tone first, and try to write as many notes on what it is about whilst you listen.

Choose ten words from each of these lists in the attached document (positive, neutral and negative). Define them, and think of an example of when someone might use that tone.

 

e.g. A parent might use an outraged tone when talking about the fact that they don't think their school has enough funding to teach students properly.
