Students to discuss WHAT IS BIOLOGY? Individually or in pairs they should post their response on the following padlet wall: http://padlet.com/daniells/zb8o9nw86qed

Once students are aware that Biology is the study of life/living things, brainstorm the following question as a class: HOW DO YOU KNOW IF SOMETHING IS ALIVE?

 

Show the following video to get students to begin thinking about the characteristics of life: CHARACTERISTICS OF LIFE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juxLuo-sH6M

 

Introduce the exploratory task: WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF LIFE? (see attachment).

-  Students to begin work on the task in groups of two or three for the remainder of the lesson.

-  Next lesson, students to continue working on exploratory task. They will have this time to finalise their product.

-  Groups to share their products with the rest of the class.
