Use this link to learn how to use the gradient-intercept method:

This can be used if the line is written in standard form:  y = mx + c, where m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept.

Step 1:  Plot at point at the y-intercept

Step 2: Write the gradient in the form m = rise/run

Step 3: Starting from the y-intercept, move up the number of units suggested by the rise (or move down if the number is negative)

Step 4: Move the right the number of units suggested by the run and plot the second point.

Step 5: Draw a straight line through these two points (using a ruler!)

Sketch the following graphs on graph paper:

a) y = x - 7

b) y = 2x + 1

c) y = -2x + 2

d) y = 1/2 x - 1

e) y = 4 - x

f) y = - 2/3 x + 8

Watch the following link about how to use the X-intercept and Y-intercept method:

Step 1: Find the y-intercept by substituting x = 0 into the rule and solving for y

Step 2: Find the x-intercept by substituting y = 0 into the rule and solving for x

Step 3: Plot the x- and y-intercepts and draw a straight line through them (using a ruler!)

Graph the following using the X-intercept and Y-intercept method:

g) 5y - 4x = 20

h) 0.2y = x + 2

i) 3y + 4x = -12

j) 2y = 5x - 2

k) 2y + 3x + 5 = 0
