VOCABULARY TASK SHOWING WHAT YOU KNOW.

 

ACTIVITY 1. Create an acrostic vocabulary list.

Try to remember words that relate to the Viking study but if you run out of ideas, you can create any words.

Use a thesarus, dictionary or the internet.

For example : how many words can you think of that begin with the letter 'V'? Write them in and do the same for the rest of the letters below. These can be nouns, verbs, adverbs or adjectives.

Viking, vicious, vibrant, villianous,  (and?)

The Vikings were expert shipbuilders.

1. Collect information about how expert they were and try and work out why the longship was such an amazing design. Oxford Big Ideas History Year 8 - p. 84-5

ACTIVITY 2

1. Open the resource below. What did the Vikings do at Lindisfarne? Why was this so shocking?

2. Why was the Viking journey to Lindisfarne so amazing for men at this time? You will need to research this. Consider their lack of instruments to plot their journey across the wild ocean and their lack of knowledge regarding the world map. Did they know they would reach land?

1. What is your view of the Vikings after reading the information in the text book and from the resource below?
