How can you score in Tchoukball? What is another modified version of the game where you can score differently?

How many steps can you take before passing the ball?

How many bounces can you make before passing the ball?

Where can you shoot from on the court?

Watch the following videos to improve your performance, look into the different angles that result in different patterns e.g. when you throw it from the far right it will land on the far left.

Watch the following YouTube clip on a professional Tchoukball game, umpire and score the game yourself. Take note of the score as well as how many errors your chosen team has made.

At the end of the video take on the role of the coach and provide feedback on how they could improve on their performance. Create strategy team plays that the team could use to have a higher chance of scoring more points.

Part 1: Warm up:

Pass Tag

Maybe 2 games depending on size of class. Players are in a 15x15m square. 2 or 3 players ‘it’

One player starts with the ball and passes it around. Players may not run while in possession of the ball and no contact allowed.

The player in possession aims to tag an opposition player with the ball (not to throw it at them). Once a player gets tagged they grab a bib/sash and join the ‘it’ team

10 ball pass

Class is broken up into 2 teams, using half of the netball/ basketball court students are to work together using the rules of Tchoukball/ Handball to pass the ball around 10 times. When the 10th ball has been passed it then needs to be placed on the ground to score.

Modifications: make the space larger, only use your opposite hand, only bounce passes, cannot pass to the same person twice, boy girl boy girl passing order

Part 2: Skill development and progression:

2 on 1 keepings off

2 players start with ball and keep the ball from the defender by running or passing. Players can move anywhere. No contact.  Repeat until all have been a defender

Four corners – 3 on 1

Groups of 4

Three attackers start on a cone each – one corner is vacant

One defender starts in the middle of the square

The aim is for the three attackers to keep the ball off the defender, who attempts to cut off the pass. The ball may not be passed diagonally across the square.

After each pass, an attacker should run to the vacant corner, giving the passer two options.

The ball is passed to the cone, not in between – it is up to the attackers to get to the cones to receive each pass.

Set a time limit (20s) and see how many times the defender can intercept or touch the ball.

Part 3: Skill application: Game:

Split into two games within netball third add Handball rules

- Add semi-circle with cones around the goal so no one is allowed in.

- Add extra rule. Bring in the rebound nets and 1 point for every throw that is caught off the rebound net

- Add new rule. 1 point for if you catch your own shot. 2 points for if you catch a teammates shot

- Add new rule. 1 point for if you catch your own shot. 2 points for if you catch a teammates shot. 3 points if you shot hits the ground without anyone touching it

- Add new rule. Can score at either end but not more than twice at the same end in a row
