Assessment : The Black Death - research topic.

You must present to your peers either individually or with a partner.

You need to have a bibliography showing exactly where you gained your information from.

Use examples or historical evidence of the time in the form of pictures, images, maps, historical records and accounts either from the internet or the class text.

Presentation may be either through a prezi or PowerPoint; but you need to present clearly to the class as a speech.

1. Why was the Black Death so named?

2. When the plague reached London which members of society were most at risk and often the first to die?

3. London in 1348-50 was a busy place - find out about why they thought the plague originated (began) in Bristol, which was an important European port and city in the 14th century.

4. What are two other names for the 14th century? 

5. Why was the spread of plague so fast throughout Europe?

6. Where was the plague transported to England from and by what means? 

7. We have studied the Feudal system briefly; what impact did the Black Death have on feudalism?

8. Why did many people lose their faith in religion during this time? 

9. What were some treatments used for the treatment of the Black Death?

10. Why did the consumption of alcohol increase?

 

INDEPENDENT WORK CHOICES FOR RESEARCH AND PRESENTATION :

Research any aspect of this era and the Black Death to present to your peers.

Choose from the following or introduce a topic of your own :

1. Art in the time of the Black Death

2. Population changes in Europe and the impact this had on society

3. The impact on the family and community

4. The physicians and their remedies

5.  Changes to feudalism and why the labour shortages meant higher wages

6. How people coped with so many deaths - mass burials etc.

7. Who was blamed for the incidence of the Black Death and why? 

8. Common beliefs about what caused the plague and how to protect yourself.

Or any other idea you may have to explore.
