Observing and recording
Although scientists use all of their five senses to make observations, sight is probably the sense that gives them the most information. Scientific bservations are either qualitative or quantitative.
Qualitative observations are descriptive and can often be recorded in diagrams or written in words, including descriptions of colour, temperature, smell, size, the rate of the reaction, and any changes you observe.
Quantitative observations are made by recording measurements that are numerical. Data may include distance, mass, time, temperature and volume, and will often be recorded clearly in a table.
