What is photosynthesis?

Where does photosynthesis occur in a plant cell?

What organisms do it?

When does it occur?

How could we speed it up or slow it down?

Students will create a virtual plant experiment to vary the rate of photosynthesis.

Students need to detail the following sections of the scientific method:

- title

- aim

- hypothesis

- materials

- method

Ensure that you have a control, and that you change only ONE variable.  Establish how you will measure results.

Consider what plant experiments you could do at home that could be more long term.  You may want to grow plants from seed or seedling, in a range of different conditions.

Follow the link below to information on how to create a valid scientific experiment.

Be clear about using a control, and what a variable is.  What's the difference between an independent and dependent variable?

Read and summarise each part of the experiment in your own words.

You will be given this lesson to create a plant experiment on photosynthesis.

Before you plan your experiment, you should understand what photosynthesis is and what are the inputs, outputs, and requirements for photosynthesis to occur.

What experiments have already been done on photosynthesis?  Do an internet search for "kids science experiments on plants" or "science experiments on photosynthesis".

What could be altered to vary the rate of photosynthesis?

What can you measure to give you feedback on the rate of photosynthesis?
