Activity 1:

You will find a range of equipment in stations around the room. Visit each station with a partner. Decide what you think each piece of equipment is used for. Keep a record of your work - you may like to use this template.

There will be a chance to share the correct answers.

Activity 2:

Lighting a Bunsen burner.

Follow these steps along with the teacher. DO NOT move ahead of the others. The teacher will light it first and then go through each step with you.

1. Place the Bunsen burner on a heat proof mat

2. Make sure the gas is off (right angles to tap attachment point)

3. Attach the hose to the gas tap

4. Close the air hole

5. Light the match and hold it over the burner

6. Turn on the gas and blow out the match

7. Always turn off the Bunsen burner at the gas tap.
