Now it's your opportunity to write a response about what you consider to be interesting about Ed's actions and his transformation.

In Unit 1 next year you will need to consider the author's purpose, views and values. If Ed Kennedy demonstrates some of the author's values, what are they?

Are they any of the following?

1. If you put yourself first, life is good.

2. Helping others strengthens your character.

3. If you think that you are worse off than anybody else you are probably right.

4. When you see other people's problems, you realise your life is better than you thought.

5. Helping others can be dangerous.

6. Helping others can be beneficial for innocent victims.

7. If everyone did what Ed does, the world would be a crazy place.

8. Only a few people would be like Ed as it takes a special kind of compassion.

Can you think of any other statements?

9. Modern life isolates people.

10. If your parents put you down, you believe them.

11. Love is important and takes courage.

12. Friendship is important.
