Using the link provided, go through the following activities to introduce students to the concept of gender stereotypes and gender roles.

Start with the activity on page 6 (get students to fill in the table of characteristics for Peeta and Katniss over the course of the novel).

Then discuss definitions from page 8, followed by class discussion and questions on page 3 (focus on how their characteristics/personalities developed/changed).

Then class discussion questions 'Popular Culture' (also page 3).

Go on to quotes from activity 2 - read the quotes from Katniss and Peeta. Discuss how the characters subvert gender sterotypes.

Then go on to class discussion questions on page 4.

If time, put what has been covered into a text response paragraph. eg. 'The Hunger Games subverts gender stereotypes." - prompt. Topic sentence could be "Through characters in 'The Hunger Games' such as Katniss and Peeta, Collins is subverting gender stereotypes."
