Here are two examples of topic sentences you can use for expository paragraphing on the context The Individual and Society.

Utopia is an impossible dream OR the individual can be manipulated by modern media.


Below is a structure for an expository paragraph

Topic Sentence

Exploration of Context: (70% of paragraph, exploring wider ideas about the context. Use examples from history or today's society, use examples from previous bites on North Korea oron reality tv shows)

Evidence from a text: (30% of paragraph, use The Hunger Games)

Link: your ideas back to the prompt/topic sentence in this final sentence of the paragraph.


Write down the topic sentence you've chosen, then a list of dot points for exploration and evidence. Then write a link sentence.
Store this somewhere ready for the next bite.
Remember: everything in the exploration and evidence should be relatedto the topic sentence. There should be a clear link between the Exploration and Evidence. The link should link your ideas back to the topic sentence.

Come up with a series of topic sentences as a class, based on the ideas explored in previous bites from this term. E.g. Utopia is an impossible dream OR the individual can be manipulated by modern media.
