Read Monday in prose doc below

See the prose version of Monday (from p. 129) below and highlight (either by printing out or on Word) the changes that have been made, other than lay out changes. Pay particular attention to the detail that has been added. What more does this tell the reader about the characters and their feelings/motivations or about the setting?

Choose another poem in the book and make changes to this one as if it would now appear in a traditional novel. Write a paragraph to explain the changes you made, paying particular attention to the details you added and explaining why you wanted to add more detail about the characters and their feelings/motivations or about the setting? What effect did you want this to have on the reader?

Read through the prose version of Monday and discuss the changes to layout, language and level of detail.

Students are to choose another poem and turn it into prose- they can work with a partner.

Team up with another classmate or another pair to discuss the changes you made and the intended effect on the reader.

Now individually write a paragraph explaining your choices. Teacher will read an example paragraph on Monday to help get you started.
