Ten years later - write a sequel to the novel in Frankie's first person narration. Mickey returns.

Can you imagine where you will be?

What and where would you like to be then? 

What do you think you will need to do to get there?

Rather than writing the sequel 10 years later with Mickey returning, as in the example, choose a different scenario. Perhaps in your scenario Mickey returns a week later, or the boys somehow find him on the Fortuna.

You will have this class and at least one more.

Use time to craft your writing and edit it.

Minimum 500 words

Maximum 1500 words

10 years into the future

or....20 years through the perspective of the children of Mickey and/or Frankie.

REVIEW - the end of the novel- CLASS DISCUSSION

What happens at the end of the novel? What does Frankie discover about what has happened to Mickey?

Is this a good ending? Why? 

CREATIVE WRITING

Write a sequel to the novel that could be added as the final chapter- Chapter 21, set 10 years later.

WHAT IS A SEQUEL?

It is a continuation of the novel.

Your sequel must link to the novel, however, ten years have passed. 

You must write in first person narration from Frankie's point of view.

OR

You can change the narration and write from Mickey's viewpoint as he returns to see his friends.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU :

Why has he returned?

Is he safe now from prosecution?

REMEMBER :

Review the ending of the novel - how did Mickey escape punishment and leave Sydney undiscovered?

What clues did Frankie have which enabled him to understand exactly how Mickey left? What did it have to do with the Fortuna?

What is the reaction of Frankie and the Black Dog Gang when they see Mickey?

Is Mickey prosperous now?

How have the boys all changed now that they are men?

What are they doing? 

What adventures might Mickey have had?

(neither of the samples in resources consider this so perhaps you could add some details about the adventures Mickey has had - where has he been for example? Is he successful? What does he do?)
