After viewing the film Billy Elliot, discuss the PowerPoint in Resource section.

TASK A

1. Consider how difficult it was for Billy to follow his dreams when he lives in a mining town and the strike occurs.

2. How different is the world of ballet when Billy is an adult to the world of the mining town when he is a young boy?

3. Has his father learned to accept Billy by the end of the film? Why?

4. What do the closing scenes of the film reveal about Billy? Is he finally with the group he belongs to?

TASK B

Expository paragraph - this can be done independently or as a group with your teacher but try to use some ideas of your own :

Consider how important it is that Billy is able to change the attitudes of his family and have the courage, at a young age, to leave the family home to pursue his dreams.
