A study of colloquial language or slang.

1. Have you read over the novel and found some examples of slang or colloquial language?

2. List some slang terms used today if you haven't already.

3. Find some examples of older colloquialisms or sayings we no longer use today.

Creative writing using slang :

Check the work you have done on the conversation between Mr. Hardcastle and Frankie when Frankie is about to be beaten and blackmails the teacher.

Did you show how they speak e.g. did you use slang?

EDITING your work.

Is it written in the correct tense?

Do you have the correct punctuation for dialogue between Frankie and his friends, and Frankie and Mr. Hardcastle?

Make sure you start your piece before Frankie enters the room and then show how happy he is to share the good news with his friends.

What are their reactions?

You can write this in a similar way to the way it is presented in the novel or you can create a script.

Share with your peers and teacher.

Creative writing using slang :

Have you completed the conversation between Mr. Hardcastle and Frankie when Frankie is about to be beaten and blackmails the teacher?

CHECKLIST

Editing your work :

Did you show how they speak e.g. did you use slang?

Is it written in the correct tense?

Do you have the correct punctuation for dialogue?

Make sure you start your piece before Frankie enters the room and then show how happy he is to share the good news with his friends.

Based on your understanding of the characters, what will the conversation look and sound like? Will there be conflict? Build up to the section where Frankie tells Mr. Hardcastle what he knows.

What are his reactions? Describe Mr. Harcastle's change from bully to defeated bully.

You can write this in a similar way to the way it is presented in the example in the previous bite or you can create a script.
