You will now begin planning an essay based on the novel Camel Rider. In this essay you will draw on ideas discussed in class, on your knowledge of characters and themes.

Below are a range of topics. You are to choose ONE topic to write your essay.

  • There are more similarities than differences between Walid and Adam. Do you agree?

  • Adam shows Walid he has 200 dirhams. Walid is totally stunned because he has never seen so much money before. What does this scene tell us about the differences between the Adam’s and Walid’s world?

  • Despite the challenges that Adam and Walid encounter in the desert they both survive. Discuss.

  • Camel rider is not just a story of two boys stranded in the desert, it is a story that teaches us about how the world is so different. Discuss

  • From their first meeting, the two boys have problems understanding each other. Explain how the two boys were able to overcome barriers and develop a friendship.
