Refer back to what you learnt in the previous bite on character journeys. How did Walid and Adam change as a result of their journey?

Activity 1.

With a  peer, recreate a skit/ performance that explains how one of the characters - Adam or Waild - changes over time. Use one of the following themes to recreate your scene.

Your team will be presenting this skit before the end of the lesson today.

-the importance of friendship

-the difficulty of overcoming cultural differences (including the language barrier)

-war

-greed

-survival

Activity 2.

From the topic sentence below, construct the EEL of the TEEL paragraph to support the statement.

e.g. Through Adam's change from a selfish child to a compassionate young man, Mason shows us that when we can overcome cultural differences we can become more accepting and understanding.

As a class, construct a TEEL paragraph on the board with a topic sentence that relates to the points of discussion in classroom activity one.

e.g. Through Adam's change from a selfish child to a compassionate young man, Mason shows us that when we can overcome cultural differences we can become more accepting and understanding.

Students now need to choose one of the other areas of discussion and write their own TEEL paragraph using examples from the text.
