Find other resources that illustrate the impact ancient civilisations have had on how we live today. This could be internet resources, someone you know who is an expert, a museum exhibition, documentary etc.

Watch an episode of 'What the Romans Did for us' - a documentary about ancient roman inventions and how they imapct on how we live today.

There are other episodes and documentaries available on youtube, can you find an engaging and informative documentary about ancient civilisations?

Class Discussion

Share your findings from the 'anywhere anytime' activity with a peer, and then with the class.

What are some inventions from the ancient world? Which ones are still useful to us today? How have these inventions evolved? What can we learn about our own society from what we have learned about ancient societies?

Venn Diagram

Create a Venn diagram on the board (Ancient world, Australia today). Fill in the diagram as a class to represent the similaritites and differences between ancient civilisations and today - students can take turns to write their ideas on the board (students may think/pair/share before doing the group venn diagram).

Brainstorm

In small groups, brainstorm aspects of ancient civilisations that have shaped todays world.

Each group should brainstorm a different civilisation from the list below:

Egypt

Rome

Greece

China

India

 

Each group can present their brainstorm of the civilisations to the class.
