1. Discuss the Industrial Revolution as a class. Have students brainstorm what they think the most important inventions in history have been, and discuss whether any of them were invented during this period. Look at the following : http://www.history.com/topics/industrial-revolution (Both sides of industrial revolution)
2.
Research the Industrial Revolution using the websites below. During your research, take down notes that respond to the following questions:
What was the industrial revolution?
When was the industrial revolution?
Why was that period called the 'Victorian Era'?
How did it begin?
What was life like for those living during the industrial revolution?

3.
Assign each student - or group of students - a common occupation of the industrial revolution (eg. Coal minig, factory work, canal work, cotton mills etc.)
Presentations to the class: Students will present an overview of their occupation and the conditions involved, from the perspective of someone working during the industrial revolution. Include pictures and first-hand stories.

4. Think/Pair/Share
Working conditions have changed drastically since the Industrial Revolution. We now have strict rules about what you are entitled to as a worker.
Do you know anyone who has or has had a part time job while at school?
Think about the kinds of jobs they have had, and the work conditions they were provided with (how long would they work for? would they get breaks? how much did they get paid?)
