Go to survey monkey website. Sign up using your TC email. Ensure that you sign up to the free version and that you then select the option of sign up using google account.

Use survey monkey to produce a survey based around your topic. Remember that the survey questions should be:

  • relevant
  • either open or closed questions.
  • be useful to give answers with relevant information that is useful to you
  • written in a language that will be understood by the reader

Remember that you should get someone else to check your questions before it is finalised and released to its audience.

Your survey should be viewed by someone else. Ask for their feedback on the following:

Do they understand the survey?

Can they follow it?

Do they have any suggestions on how it could be improved?

Record their feedback.

At a job interview there will generally be open questions. Use the link below to carry out an exercise in recognising open and closed questions when at a job interview.

As a group decide on a survey to carry out involving others at School.

Within the group nominate roles for everyone. These could involve:

  1. Group leader
  2. Writer
  3. Checker

As a group produce the survey. Then use other members of the class to complete the survey.

With the survey results collated use a spreadsheet program (such as excel) to produce a visual output of the results.

Within the group then discuss the results. Draw some conclusions. These conclusions should be written down and include the following points:

  • What can you tell from the results?
  • Why do you think the results are that way?

Analysing Staff Cars

Part A

Creating Survey

i) In groups produce a list of the possible things that can be investigated about the staff cars in the carpark.

ii) Decide on your focus for the investigation.

iii) Each student draw up a tally chart using a medium of your choice (paper, one note, excel, etc)

Part B

Collecting Results 

When under supervision go outside and carry out the investigation recording the results carefully.

Tally up the results. Compare this with other members of the group to compare for consistency.

Part C

Analysis of Results

Using microsoft excel or a similar program produce a graph of the results. Choose your type of graph carefully as you will need to justify why you chose that type.

Conclusion of results
Record your thoughts to the following questions:
  • What do the results show you?
  • Why do you think that these results are are like they are?

Evaluation of survey
Record your thoughts to the following points and more if you wish:
  • Was your survey successful?
  • Did you encounter problems throughout the survey?
  • Could the methodology be improved of the survey?
  • Was the method of displaying the results easy to read?
  • If you were to carry on the investigation further how would you do it?
