What chores do you already do?

Are you happy with the distribution of chores?

What chores need to be done in your house?

Family life is much easier if everyone contributes fairly to the running of the house. Even the smallest child who is acquiring language is able to help with the practical life in a household.

Families can brainstorm all the tasks that need to be done, recognising school, work and driving children to and from activities are all part of the jobs we need to do.

Once this has been done rather than randomly allocating jobs encourage a discussion on what jobs might suit people in the house more.

  • Do some people go to bed early? - so can't really help clean up after dinner
  • Do some people work during the week?
  • Do some have activities on the weekend?
  • Do people prefer inside or outside work?
  • Is there a level of skill involved that younger children may not be able to do?

Once all chores are assigned discuss the fairness and exchange jobs where necessary to have a more equitable result.
