Solve simultaneous equations by elimination

Reason For Learning

Many times in algebra you will have two equations that can be solved simultaneously for two unknowns. These equations are found in science and engineering quite frequently. In business, simultaneous equations related to the costs and profits involved are solved to find the 'break even point'. This is the point of intersection (which we find using this method) lets the business know how many units of a product they will need to sell to "break even" and when they will start making a profit!

Learning Intention

In this lesson you will learn how to solve simultaneous equations using the process of elimination. The process of elimination begins by adding or subtracting equations in order to remove one of the unknowns.
