Equation of a Straight Line: Finding the Gradient of a Straight Line from its Rule

Reason For Learning

All straight lines can be formed using the general equation: y = mx + c, where m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept. We can then classify lines that have a positive gradient (up and to the right), negative gradient (down and to the right), gradient of 0 (horizontal line) or a undefined gradient (vertical line).

Learning Intention

I can use the equation y = mx +b to find the gradient (slope), the y-intercept and other coordinates on the line.
