Reason For Learning
A significant behavioural determinant that affects health is nutrition. Poor nutrition is linked to a number of health conditions including cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, colorectal cancer, obesity and osteoporosis. These conditions contribute to a large number of deaths and significant levels of morbidity in Australia. Having an understanding of the role of key nutrients in the protection or development of these conditions is essential to enable a range of interventions to be developed and further improvements in health to be made.
