Reason For Learning

Can use the conventions of distance, location and direction to read, create and use maps.

Learning Intention

The purpose is to focus on the development of the confidence and abilities of the students to perform everyday mathematics when problem solving, reading maps, calculating scales, using map references, estimating distances and travelling time, drawing maps, describing and following routes, reading timetables, independency and group work. In doing so students will gain in competency in reading and interpreting a variety of maps, use appropriate language to give directions, estimate distance and time to destinations on maps of different scales and draw simple maps using scale and index.
