Relative Frequencies and Expected Values

Reason For Learning

Well we all like strategies that make hard word problems easier. A probability tree diagram is one of the best.

Learning Intention

You will be given a range of probability problems which can be represented in the form of a tree diagram. Each branch of the tree will be associated with a particular probability value. You will find that the sum of the probabilities at the ends of the branches always adds up to 1.

ACMSP225 Level 9

List all outcomes for twostep chance experiments, both with and without replacement using tree diagrams or arrays. Assign probabilities to outcomes and determine probabilities for events

ACMSP226 Level 9

Calculate relative frequencies from given or collected data to estimate probabilities of events involving 'and' or 'or'

ACMSP247 Level 10

Use the language of ‘if ....then, ‘given’, ‘of’, ‘knowing that’ to investigate conditional statements and identify common mistakes in interpreting such language
