Reason For Learning

Sine and cosine are not the only trigonometric functions used in trigonometry. One reason that tangents are so important is that they give the slopes of straight lines, a fact that has many practical uses eg building wheelchair access ramps

Tangent combines the rise and run. The tangent of an angle is the ratio of the length of the opposite side to the length of the adjacent side: so called because it can be represented as a line segment tangent to the circle
