Unit 4 - Fuel Cells Advantages & disadvantages : Use of Electrochemical series

Reason For Learning

Just as the lead acid accumulator is the focus of considerable research, so too is the fuel cell. The race is on to see which one of the two alternatives will become mainstream in cars as petrol prices itself out of the market and ultimately runs out as a non renewable resource.

Learning Intention

A fuel cell is different because the reactant gases are supplied continuously to the cell. Hydrogen burns well in oxygen, so does methane. In a fuel cell, reactions like this are performed in such a way that the energy is converted to electrical rather than thermal.
