Reason For Learning
Sometimes the "speed" , or more correctly the, the "rate" of reaction is important. When petrol burns in a car engine, the rate of reaction must be high as the fuel is in the engine cylinder for a brief period of time. At other times the rate of reaction needs to be a slow one, the rate at which metal beams on a bridge corrode is an example of this.
Learning Intention
After completing this learning bite students will know that the rate of reaction depends on the frequency and energy level of collisions, the following factors can also be employed to change the reaction rate.
Temperature, Concentration , Surface Area and the use of a Catalyst.
