Reason For Learning

The content of this learning bite is considered key knowledge and an important part of the VCE unit 3 course. It includes organic reaction pathways such as condensation and polymerisation reactions that produce large biomolecules.

Learning Intention

After completing this learning bite you should be able to: Describe the molecular structure of common carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. Use functional groups to describe the condensation reactions of monosaccharides to form disaccharides and polysaccharides, amino acids to form proteins, and glycerol and fatty acids to form saturated and unsaturated triglycerides.
