Reason For Learning

Today most of our energy needs are met by burning fossil fuels, such as coal, petroleum and natural gas. Coal is used to generate electricity. Products derived from crude oil, such as petrol and diesel, are used as transport fuels. Other products derived from crude oil are used to manufacture a diverse range of products, from plastics to pharmaceuticals

Learning Intention

After completing this learning bite you should be able to: Discuss the environmental impact of burning hydrocarbon fuels. Explain the advantages of using biochemical fuels. Describe how ethanol is produced as well as write the equation for its production. Describe , with the aid of appropriate equations the production of biodiesel.
