Unit 2 - Combined gas laws, Daltons Law (ARCHIVE)

Reason For Learning

Dalton’s law of partial pressures states that, at constant temperature and volume, the total pressure of a mixture of gases is the sum of the partial pressures. The sum of the pressures exerted by the gas in each container is equal to the total pressure exerted by a mixture of gases in the same volume, provided that the gases do not react with each other and that the temperature remains constant. Dalton’s law of partial pressures holds because each gas exerts its own pressure irrespective of the pressure exerted by the other gas components of the mixture.
