Survival Context - History of China (The First Opium War)

Reason For Learning

Students will develop an understanding of China's history - in particular China's relationship with western colonial powers prior to and during the First Opium War in 1840 so they are can put the film Mao's Last Dancer into more of a social and historical context.

Learning Intention

Students will analyse various primary and secondary sources relating to the First Opium War and present their findings to the class.
