Unit 2 - Note Form Summaries and Language Analysis

Reason For Learning

If you studied this learning bite in Unit 1, then in this topic, you will be taken deeper into writing language analyses and summaries. If you joined the class later in the year, you will receive an introduction to summarising and presenting the main points of a text clearly and not in full sentences. You will also be introduced to many persuasive techniques that writers, speakers and advertisers use.

Learning Intention

At the end of this learning bite and after having completed additional classwork and home learning, you will understand how to write a note form summary following five basic rules (show five main points, use an umbrella heading, do not use full sentences, use appropriate abbreviations and symbols, and present the information in a clear, logical layout). You will also be able to write clear sentences explaining how a piece of persuasive text is likely to effect the reader or listener.
